Members of the Dutch Corner History Group present: “The Legacy of Indian Eve”

Hollidaysburg – The Blair County Genealogical Society will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday September 15th, 2022 at the Roller Hojeth Memorial Library, 431 Scotch Valley Rd.

Our speakers this month will be Carl Sellers, his daughter Lora Sellers, and his brother Gary Sellers, all members of the Dutch Corner History Group. The title of the talk is “The Legacy of Indian Eve”.

“Indian Eve”, or Mrs. Eve Ernst, was taken captive by the Indians and lived with them at their camp before being traded to the English at Fort Detroit. She eventually made her way back to Bedford County. She is buried at the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dutch Corner.

The Sellers family are direct descendants of Indian Eve and have grown up with the story in their family. They formed the Dutch Corner History Group to collect and preserve the history of the families who live or have lived in the Dutch Corner area of Bedford County and to share the history of Indian Eve.

This meeting is free and open to the public and all are invited to attend.

  1. Is Indian Eve related to the daughter of Queen Aliquippa? Her name was Summer Eve Sassoonan. We are descendants of them & are searching for information. FamilySearch says that Summer Eve is buried at Dutch Corner.

  2. Can you tell me if Indian Eve was the same woman as Summer Eve Sassoonan? She was the daughter of Queen Aliquippa of the Seneca tribe & spent her last years in the Bedford area. I am a descendant of hers trying to find more information .
