HOLLIDAYSBURG – The Blair County Genealogical Society will meet at 7:00 pm Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the Roller Hojeth Memorial Library, 431 Scotch Valley Rd. Hollidaysburg, PA.
Our May meeting will be “Fuel, Food and the Military Metabolism of the Continental Army at Valley Forge” by Dr. David Hsiung, Professor of History at Juniata College.
The armed forces needed energy, food, fuel, work animals, food for those animals to operate, and all that energy came from the environment. How did those armed forces get that energy and use it? The answers to that question help us understand the course of the War of Independence, the lives of soldiers and civilians, and the role the natural world played at that time and during the centuries that followed.
From Dr. Hsiung’s Juniata College bio:
Dr Hsiung has taught at Juniata College since 1991. He has taught a variety of courses: broad surveys of U. S. history, as well as more specialized courses on the American Revolution, environmental history, early North American history, and terrorism.
All presentations are free and open to the public. Donations are greatly appreciated.
